Environmental fluid sealing solutions

Metal’s versatility in industrial applications is limitless. Take ETEC, for example. They are reaping the benefits of aluminium sheets in their spill trays, which safeguard electrical transformers. But how does this self-engineered solution work, and why did they turn to Dejond Metals for their materials?

ETEC, based in Wilrijk, is a specialist in environmental fluid sealing solutions. For over 55 years, their team has been manufacturing and installing high-quality plastic films and clay mats for applications such as car parks, tank farms, petrol stations, and buffer basins. Their spill trays are specifically designed to ensure safe liquid storage.

Aluminium protection

ETEC's prefabricated spill trays provide an efficient and practical solution for preventing soil and groundwater contamination, making them a trusted choice for utility companies and beyond. Crafted from chemically resistant, reinforced MRC® film, these trays stand out for their exceptional mechanical and chemical durability. Flexible, insulating, maintenance-free, they offer a highly effective way to collect liquids within a compact footprint.

A simple concept with a powerful impact

Jeroen De Vrij, engineer at ETEC: “Spill trays are not a new concept, but evolving fire safety regulations for transformers required us to seek additional protection. To reinforce the bottom of the fireproof cover when a transformer was driven in, we turned to Dejond Metals. Following their advice, we opted for aluminium sheets. Box folded, plates inserted, ribbon secured... a simple concept but with a powerful impact for our customers. And it works perfectly.”

Metalworking in the Metal Service Centre

ETEC has long relied on Dejond Metals, including for aluminium slats used to secure foil to structures. So, when they needed a solution for their spill trays, it was only natural to look just across the street – quite literally, as we’re neighbours. Innovation, after all, has a way of bringing like-minded partners together.

“Because you collaborate with us and deliver high-quality custom solutions. The design using 2 mm-thick aluminium sheets turned out to be the best fit for our customers’ needs – lightweight yet sturdy enough for the job. It’s also a major advantage that your Metal Service Centre processes the sheets for us, ensuring they arrive with rounded corners and fit seamlessly into the bins. As a trusted local partner, always close by, your expertise adds real value to our work”, says Jeroen De Vrij.

As a result, we supply ETEC with around 100 aluminium sheets each month – punched and custom-finished in our workshop to fit three standard types of spill trays.
